Silent nights, holding tight
Tough times bearing might…
Cuddles with a furry tail and wet noses,
And
Hope lights up
Coz we got a furry guardian!
Ever wonder what trust is? What unconditional love is? Look into a dog’s eye or any animal for that matter…. the happiness the hope that fact that you make up their whole world is amazing!
“Adopt don’t shop” is a popular thought but going along with it is tough, keeping a pet at home is not just a status symbol but it is a family member! Just like a family member, there is no judgment in their eyes, no complaints in their words, no ifs and buts, they accept us for who we are. Most common pets we see around are dogs of various sizes and shapes, but the common factor yet remains is love, unconditional love!!!
Snuggle buddy, just like a kid demanding attention around the clock. Pedigree rules for some but at times we live for those stray wagging tails! Happiness lies in those barks and tails which welcome you when you come back home!
Vaccination is a must for both human and the dog but sometimes it’s only a privilege for them to get medical attention, just to be able to do our bit and bring in a change, that spark in their eyes, that hope in their wagging tails!
A vaccination drive for about 100 dogs was orchestrated by Priya Somani, a 3rd professional student in veterinary sciences at Khalsa college of veterinary and animal sciences, Amritsar. Conducted with the help of two veterinary officers appointed in both the places where the camps were held. On the 3rd of October, 40 dogs were vaccinated against rabies in the village Panchkosi while 60 dogs and a cat were immunized on the day of the second camp, 8th Oct in village Bhagu. As explained by Priya,” Rabies can be found in a variety of animals, but just due to the biting habit it makes it easier to transmit to humans. This condition is untreatable and the terminal in both animals and humans alike.” The vaccine RakshaRab was administered.
28th of September every year is celebrated as world anti-rabies day, the theme for this year is ‘end rabies: collaborate, vaccinate.’ The goal is to make the world rabies-free by the year 2030. While talking she explained,” to check whether a dog is rabid or not, look for simple and obvious symptoms like excessive salivation, extreme excitability, hydrophobia, and the most noticeable feature is self-mutilation.”
The natural enemies? Maybe but best friends against all odds.!
Sharing an incident from the first camp, Ms. Somani said, ‘at a point in time there were a cat and a handicapped dog in my arms and the interesting thing, they were not fighting, they were curious about each other and nudging towards each other.” This made her ponder when archenemies can act as friends and learn to co-exist, so why can’t we human beings do the same…?
Giving a few pointers for all the animal lovers, the animal welfare board issues IDs to people who feed stray dogs! so next time someone bullies you about feeding a stray, tell them we are protected under the law and that it is illegal to re-locate and starve and take away their shelter under Section 11(1) (h), PCA Act, 1960.
Animals may lack the power of speech but they sure have the power of expression, teaching compassion, love.! Sometimes all you need is a hug, a sloppy kiss, an ear to listen and make you smile.
It won’t hurt for us to drive a little carefully, make an extra bread, share a bedsheet maybe a bowl for those speechless creatures who exist for a reason which fathom us.
Let's just try and be their voice.
SPREADING SMILES BY REACHING SMILES!
